MELBOURNE, Australia — Top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka booked their places in the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday with clinical straight set victories. Still to come on Day 4 at Melbourne Park is Australia’s great hope Alex de Minaur and world No. 3 Alexander Zverev.
Also advancing to the next stage was Daniil Medvedev, American Coco Gauff, Elina Svitolina, and Andrey Rublev.
Yesterday, Naomi Osaka sent the tennis world into a frenzy when she stepped on court in an outlandish outfit, while Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova spoke out about why she believes Russian and Belarusian players should be banned from competition. Sabalenka has since responded to the comment.
There also continues to be plenty of interest surrounding the queues and wait times for entry to Melbourne Park, as well as the ongoing discussion around whether the current AU$111.5 million (US$77.4 million) prize pool is enough for players.
Stay tuned as ESPN’s team of reporters bring you all the latest news, results, match schedules, and more from Day 4 at the Australian Open.
